The AUTO Soils Direct Shear (ASD) system is a fully automatic direct and residual shear apparatus designed to increase throughput and improve data quality in busy geotechnical laboratories. It replaces manual weights and frequent operator intervention with precise stepper-motor control across a 15 kN consolidation range and 5 kN shear range, eliminating the need for a compressor and significantly reducing noise in the lab.
The ASD manages consolidation and shear stages automatically, with horizontal and vertical displacements measured by high-accuracy LVDTs and stored digitally for analysis and reporting. A 7" waterproof colour touchscreen provides clear setup, logging and graphical views, with user-configurable templates for fast repeat testing.
The ASD is supplied with ELE’s DS8.0 Data System Auto Test Management software, which streamlines test setup, execution and reporting for consolidation and direct/residual shear tests. DS8.0 guides the operator through each stage, ensures the correct standard is applied, and allows loading/unloading increments and stage durations to be defined and stored as templates for quick repeat testing.
Operators can skip steps automatically where appropriate, change target loads during a running test, and monitor up to 16 machines simultaneously over Ethernet – enabling 24/7 unattended operation and remote diagnostics. Real-time graphical outputs and flexible report templates (including editable PDF formats) support efficient data review and traceable reporting.
